Do you ever feel like you’ve outgrown your life? Like the routines, roles, and expectations that once fit... now feel tight—confining—and you’re no longer sure who you are in the midst of it all? Maybe you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or as if the vibrant, alive version of yourself has been buried.
This is what happens when we give so much of ourselves outward and don’t nurture our inner world—the part of us that holds our vitality, joy, and spiritual essence. The “container” that once kept us safe has become too small, and your soul is quietly asking for more space.
How This Feels in Everyday Life
Signs that your container is too tight can look different for everyone:
Physical tension, pain, or sudden anxiety
Feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities
A sense of disconnection from your roles or from yourself
A quiet sadness or the sense that your spark has dimmed
You might feel like you’ve lost touch with the woman who once felt alive—or the little girl inside you, whose joy and wonder now seem distant.
My Awakening Moment
I’ve experienced this myself more than once. One of the most profound moments came after a lengthy illness that left me unable to participate in the activities I loved. I felt depleted, hopeless, and disconnected from life. I knew I had to do something to expand beyond the “container” I had found myself in.
I attended a women’s spiritual retreat in the Sacred Valley of Peru. On the second day of the journey, standing in the Pisac Archaeological Park at nearly 11,000 feet, something shifted. A feeling came over me that I hadn’t experienced in years: the girl inside me—the one who felt vibrant, expansive, and capable of anything she set her mind to—came alive again. I hadn’t realized she was still there. I thought she had been lost many years ago. In that instant, my world expanded, and I vowed never to lose her again.
Even now, as a mom, wife, practitioner, and business owner, keeping that spark alive is a daily practice. Spiritual expansion isn’t only about grand, awe-filled, mountain-top moments (though they absolutely help!)—it’s about consistently tending to your inner world, nurturing your heart, and making space for your soul to breathe.
Practices to Expand Your Inner Container
Here are simple, daily ways to reconnect with your spirit and widen the space in which your soul can thrive:
Pause and Listen: Make it a practice of placing your hand on your heart. Take three deep breaths. Ask, what does my soul need today?
Hear Your Heart’s Song: Slow down enough to listen to your heart’s song—and then begin to sing it. This will often show up as a small, quiet voice inside you, a whisper, a melody, gently reconnecting you to life and to your own aliveness. Let it guide your choices and actions.
Connect with Nature: Stand in the sun, feel the wind, watch the birds, touch trees. Let the natural world remind you of your aliveness.
Release Through Visualization: While showering or sitting quietly, imagine worries and tension flowing out of you, creating space for clarity and joy.
Inner Dialogue: Journal or speak to your inner child. Ask her what she needs to feel seen, loved, and awakened.
Follow Gentle Nudges: Take small, inspired actions as opportunities arise, honoring the flow of your personal spiritual awakening.
These practices lift the lid of the container, creating room for your soul to breathe and your spirit to expand. They reconnect you to the life force within—the part of you that longs for alignment, freedom, and spiritual growth.
Embrace the Call to Expansion
When your container feels too tight, it is not failure—it is a signal from your soul. Expansion begins when you honor this call and create space for yourself: space for creativity, joy, and spiritual freedom.
Remember: spiritual awakening doesn’t only happen in grand, dramatic moments. It’s cultivated in the small, sacred pauses of daily life—listening to your heart, singing your soul’s song, and nurturing your inner garden.
Your spark is waiting. Your soul is calling. Reclaim her. Expand your life. Step fully into the spiritual awakening that is yours to embrace.
