If you’ve been keeping up with the headlines — whether you want to or not — you’ve likely felt it: the energy around us is heavy, chaotic, and sometimes overwhelming. There’s a lot happening energetically on our planet right now, and it seems to be intensifying.
I’m not here to stir fear, create scarcity, or make anyone hyper-aware of current events. I’m here to hold space for all of us who are sensitive by nature — empaths, intuitives, or anyone who picks up on the energy of others.
Pause and Check In: Are You Carrying Energy That Isn’t Yours?
Before we talk about tools and strategies, let's pause for a moment. How are you feeling? Really feeling. Not just in your mind, but in your body.
Are you carrying tension, heaviness, or anxiety that isn’t actually yours?
Have you stopped to connect with your own energy today?
Do you know how to clear energy that isn’t yours, or even why it matters?
Why Empaths Absorb Energy (and Why It Can Feel So Draining)
Maybe you’re someone who holds on to things long after they’ve occurred. You don’t want them to affect you, but somehow, they do. You can’t quite shake it. The actions of others, the way events unfold, even things you see or hear on the news — they end up controlling your mood, your habits, your day.
For empaths and sensitives, this isn’t unusual. Your nervous system is finely tuned to pick up on the world around you. It’s a gift — it allows you to empathize, sense, and connect deeply. But without energetic tools and boundaries, it can also leave you carrying what isn’t yours. Old emotions, stress from others, or the weight of global events can linger in your body long after the moment has passed.
You’re Not “Too Sensitive” — Understanding Your Gift
We’ve always been told we’re too sensitive, haven’t we? I know I have. I heard it my whole life growing up: “You feel too deeply.” “Try not to be so sensitive.”
But PLEASE... don’t try to shut off this sensitive nature. That’s where your gifts live. Your empathy, your intuition, your ability to sense and connect deeply — that’s power, not a flaw. Instead, embrace it. Own it. Give yourself grace for it. Then learn how to not allow it to control your life. When you do, you step into a different way of being:
Feeling deeply without being drained
Empathizing without losing your center
Remaining compassionate without carrying the weight of the world
How Protecting My Energy Changed Everything
Before I began exploring tools and practices, a conversation, situation, or event could leave me carrying the feelings of it for days or sometimes even weeks afterward. I would replay it in my mind, feel the tension in my body, and sometimes struggle to let it go.
As I slowly began implementing ways to protect my sensitive nature, I noticed something fascinating: in real time, the “hangover” of these experiences began to shrink. Weeks became days, days became a single day, then hours, then minutes. Over the years, I’ve watched this shift happen in my own life — and honestly, it’s been a complete game-changer. This personal experience is why I’m so passionate about sharing practices for energetic protection. They don’t just feel good in theory — they work in real life.
How Stored Emotions Affect the Nervous System and Body
In my work, I see this pattern all the time. Patients and clients come in carrying emotions they’ve been holding onto for years — sometimes from recent stress, but most often from long ago — and they don’t even realize it’s affecting them.
The body doesn’t just forget these experiences. Unprocessed emotions get stored in the nervous system and in the body itself. Tension, tightness, shallow breathing, and even subtle misalignments are often the physical echoes of unprocessed feelings.
Over time, this holding on shows up in many ways:
Pain: Chronic tension, stiffness, or aches that seem to have no clear cause.
Illness: A nervous system that’s constantly activated can weaken immunity and disrupt overall health.
Unwanted Emotions: Anxiety, irritability, or sadness that seems to appear “out of nowhere.”
Functional Impact: Feeling stuck, fatigued, or unable to move through life with ease — even in simple daily activities.
For sensitive individuals, this is usually magnified. Since you naturally absorb energy from others, your nervous system can remain on high alert longer, keeping these emotions and physical responses active far beyond the initial event.
Releasing, Protecting, and Resetting Your Energy (Step-by-Step for Sensitive People)
It's important to keep an assessment of where your energy is... is it yours or someone else's? The last thing you need as a sensitive is to carry around energy that doesn't even belong to you. Releasing, protecting, and resetting your energy is about creating structure, awareness, and intentional release. Here’s a step-by-step approach for sensitive individuals and empaths:
Daily Check-In
Start with a quick pause to notice your energy. Ask yourself: “What energy am I holding? Is this mine?” Observing what’s present is the first step in reclaiming your power.
Grounding
Anchor yourself in your body and the earth. Walk barefoot, touch the ground, or visualize roots extending from your feet deep into the earth. Grounding stabilizes your energy and protects you from absorbing what isn’t yours.
Body Awareness
Feel into areas of heaviness, tension, or discomfort. Notice where energy feels stuck or doesn’t belong. Awareness creates the opportunity for release.
Release Through Movement, Breath, Light, and Sound
Movement: Gentle stretching, yoga, or mindful walking helps the body physically release stored tension. Even small shakes of the hands, arms, or legs can be freeing.
Breathwork: Inhale deeply, bringing in fresh, light energy. Exhale slowly, imagining tension and outside energy leaving your body.
Bringing Light In: Visualize a warm, radiant light filling your body and dissolving heaviness.
Sound/Vibration: Humming, singing, chanting, or using a small instrument helps shift stuck energy and reset your nervous system.
Energetic Cord-Cutting
Bring your attention to the heaviness or energy that isn’t yours. Imagine “cutting the cord” connecting you to that energy. Gently sweep it away with your hands, your breath, or a visualization of energy dissolving. Feel the area release and become lighter, clearer, and fully yours again.
Creating Your Protective Energy Bubble
Finally, imagine surrounding yourself with a radiant, protective bubble. This is your safe space — outside energy cannot penetrate or stick to you. Inside this bubble, you remain centered, calm, and fully in your own energy, ready to engage with the world without absorbing what isn’t yours.
Reclaim Your Life, Reclaim Your Energy
Being a sensitive in a world of intensity can feel isolating, but you’re not alone. Protecting your energy is an act of self-respect and self-care. It allows you to stay present, compassionate, and strong — without losing your center.
Take a moment today to check in with yourself, clear what isn’t yours, anchor into your own energy, and fill yourself with light. Even a few minutes can make a profound difference in how you experience the world.
Your sensitivity is not a weakness — it’s your superpower. By nurturing your energy, honoring your boundaries, and learning to radiate light from within, you can move through life fully present, empowered, and free.
