Listening to the Quiet Voice Within

Lately, I've been doing a lot of inner listening.
Not just during meditation like I used to—but throughout the day. I pause, place a hand on my heart, take a breath, and ask a simple question:
Sometimes it's, "What do I need today?"
Other times it's, "What do I need right now?
And often that turns into, "What other messages do you have for me?"
And I listen.
Sometimes I'm listening for what my body is trying to tell me. Other times, I'm listening for the quieter whispers of my spirit. Messages that aren’t loud or demanding, but soft and steady, waiting for me to make space for them.
What I'm discovering is something that feels simple, profound, and sacred.
Our heart—our spirit—actually have a lot to say.
The more we pause and listen, the more we learn about how to care for ourselves in a deeper way. Not just physically, but energetically. We begin to notice what nourishes us, what drains us, what we’re being gently called toward… and sometimes even what we’re being called away from.
There’s a peacefulness that comes with this practice.
It feels like honoring ourselves in a way that’s easy to forget in the pace of everyday life.
Feeling the Weight of the World
I feel that many of us need this reminder right now.
Because if we’re honest, a lot of people are feeling weighed down lately. The responsibilities we carry. The constant movement of life. The energy of the world around us. Sometimes it can feel like we’re holding so much that we’re close to sinking under the weight of it all.
But something beautiful happens when we return to ourselves.
When we pause. When we notice. When we listen.
These small moments become what we like to think of as micro-healing moments.
They may only last seconds to minutes, but they shift something inside of us.
In that space of awareness, we begin to reconnect with ourselves again.
Expanding Awareness and Compassion
From there, something subtle starts to happen.
We might begin to feel ourselves expanding.
Not in giant, dramatic ways. But in quiet, meaningful ones.
Expanding our awareness. Expanding our energy. Expanding our compassion for ourselves.
Each small pause, each gentle return to ourselves, is part of a greater unfolding. These are the threads weaving the tapestry of our spiritual path. When we allow ourselves these moments, we’re not just nurturing self-care — we’re stepping into a life lived with awareness, intention, and alignment with our deepest truth.
A Simple Practice to Try
I invite you to take a moment and try something:
Place a hand on your heart, take a deep breath, and ask:
“What does my spirit need in this moment?”
Then pause and listen. Notice the thoughts, sensations, or feelings that arise. Even small awareness can ripple through the day in unexpected ways.
As we take the time to return to our hearts, we also raise the collective energy around us. Our own awareness and care becomes part of a larger field of compassion and presence. When we nurture ourselves, we contribute to the healing of our communities, the planet, and the world around us.
Remembering Our Wisdom
What I've come to realize is that this practice isn’t just about self-care.
It’s about remembering.
Remembering that there is a wisdom within us that has always been there. A quiet guidance system that doesn’t shout over the noise of the world but waits patiently for us to return.
Every time we pause and listen, we strengthen that connection.
Every time we honor what we hear, we deepen trust with our own spirit.
And this is how a spiritual path often unfolds—not through one big moment of awakening, but through many small moments of returning.
Returning to our bodies. Returning to our hearts. Returning to the deeper truth of who we are.
This is how we begin walking our path more consciously. Or how we continue it. Or how we expand into it in ways we may not have before.
Not by forcing answers. Not by searching outside of ourselves.
But by listening.
By allowing the wisdom within us to guide the next step… and then the next.
Our spirit knows the way. Sometimes it's simply waiting for us to pause long enough to hear it.
And perhaps that is the invitation for us all right now.
Not to have everything figured out. Not to rush forward.
But to return to ourselves, again and again, and let that quiet voice
help guide our path forward.
Because the path we are seeking…may already be unfolding within us.
